Dataran Ibu Pertiwi is a prominent public square located at the Kuching waterfront in Sarawak, beside the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) building and near Fort Margherita — making it one of the most scenic and meaningful spots in the city.
The main feature of the square is the 99‑metre‑high flagpole that proudly flies the Sarawak flag, officially named “Ibu Pertiwi”. “Ibu Pertiwi” — meaning Motherland — reflects Sarawak’s deep sense of heritage, unity, and pride. The flag’s colours and design symbolise the state’s multicultural harmony and shared aspirations, while the flagpole and square serve as reminders of Sarawak’s identity and spirit.

To foster community patriotism and unity, the Ibu Pertiwi Flag‑Raising Ceremony has become a meaningful monthly tradition held on the first Sunday of every month. These events usually feature an honour guard, the singing of the Sarawak state anthem Ibu Pertiwiku, and cultural performances that celebrate the state’s diversity.
More than just a structure, Dataran Ibu Pertiwi has quickly become a hub for locals and visitors alike — a place to honour Sarawak’s heritage, participate in civic events, and enjoy scenic views along the Sarawak River. Its development was supported through contributions from major petroleum entities as part of corporate social responsibility efforts.
