Sama Jaya Nature Reserve offers urban visitors a chance to experience natural rainforest surroundings within Kuching. The reserve is one of the few remaining areas of primary kerangas forest in the urban zone, providing a valuable site for nature appreciation, research, and environmental education.

The reserve is designed to support both conservation and recreation. Visitors can enjoy walking trails and jogging paths shaded by trees, making it a popular destination for strollers, fitness enthusiasts, and wildlife lovers.
Environmental conservation and education are the main focus of the park. The forest is preserved in its natural state while supporting several educational facilities operated at the park headquarters. One of the highlights is the ethnobotanical garden, which showcases more than 80 species of plants and herbs native to Sarawak.

Visitors can also explore exhibitions on forest resources through the Timber Products, Bamboo, and Forest Biology displays, which highlight the ecological and economic importance of forests to the state. A viewing tower is available, offering a panoramic view of the surrounding forest landscape.
