Located in the heart of Kuching, India Street (Kuching) is among the city’s oldest streets, with a rich history tracing back to the 19th century. Early settlers arriving via the Sarawak River established thriving textile trading activities in the area, which was originally known as Kling Street, reflecting its role as a bustling commercial hub.

In 1992, India Street underwent a major transformation and became Malaysia’s first pedestrianised shopping street. This forward-looking initiative helped preserve the area’s historical charm while enhancing its appeal as a modern retail and cultural destination. Today, India Street is a popular attraction where visitors can experience a harmonious blend of heritage, local lifestyle, and contemporary shopping.
