Bako National Park established in 1957, Bako National Park is the oldest national park in Sarawak. It is famous for its unique rock formations, lush mangroves, rainforests, and proboscis monkeys. The iconic Serpent Head sea stack at Bako National Park in Sarawak collapsed on 13th February 2024 due to natural causes. Shaped like a snake’s head, the rock formation was a major draw for visitors to Bako National Park and was believed to have been shaped by waves and seawater over thousands of years.
Bako National Park’s undisputed star is the proboscis monkey, known for its distinctive, oversized nose and endearingly comical pot-bellied figure. This rainforest icon is surrounded by an ensemble of captivating wildlife, including mischievous long-tailed macaque monkeys frequently seen patrolling the park headquarters, graceful silvered leaf monkeys, impressive monitor lizards, curious squirrels, and even flying lemurs that glide effortlessly from tree to tree.
