Bukit Batu Selabat is situated in Kampung Selabat located about 20 minutes from Kuching city centre in Kuching. The hike is commonly combined with a visit to Arong Serait Waterfall, as both attractions are located within the same village and are managed by the local community.
The hiking trail starts behind the registration and payment area before splitting into two directions:
- Straight ahead leads to Arong Serait Waterfall.
- Turning right will take hikers toward Bukit Batu Selabat.
Along the route, visitors may encounter a hidden lookout point accessible via a ladder located after passing through a gap between two large boulders. Due to time constraints for most hikers, many continue climbing to the summit using a rope-assisted ladder section near the top.
The summit of Bukit Batu Selabat features a sun-bleached, weathered rock surface that resembles a petrified brain formation. From the top, hikers are rewarded with a spectacular 360-degree panoramic view, including Bako National Park, The coastline stretching toward the Muara Tebas promontory, Bukit Lasak (another popular scenic hiking destination) and the distant silhouette of Gunung Santubong across the lowland landscape.
The trail is community-managed, and local guides help ensure visitor safety and provide basic assistance along the hike.
Hiking is not recommended during bad weather. The summit rock surface can become extremely slippery when wet. The exposed peak area also increases the risk of lightning strikes during storms. Visitors are advised to check weather conditions before starting the hike and to wear proper hiking footwear.
