Bung Muan, also known as Mount Serembu, is a prominent historical and natural landmark located in Bau, Sarawak, approximately 25 kilometers from Kuching. The site is rich in historical significance, particularly from the era of the White Rajahs of Sarawak and its association with the renowned naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace.
The trail to the summit is relatively short, spanning 2.5 to 3 kilometers one-way, yet it offers a rewarding and adventurous climb. The summit rises to approximately 500 meters (1,646 feet) above sea level. While the total elevation gain is moderate, the hike is noted for its steep sections.
The trail itself is a natural jungle path, often lined with moss-covered rocks and exposed tree roots, which can become slippery, particularly after rain. Midway to the summit, hikers will encounter moderately steep inclines, but rope rails are provided in key sections to assist climbers on the final push to the top.
