Simunjan District is one of the administrative districts in the Samarahan Division of Sarawak, Malaysia. Strategically located between Serian and Sri Aman, it shares borders with Sebuyau and Samarahan. The district lies approximately 51.4 kilometres (32 miles) east-southeast of Kuching, the capital city of Sarawak.

The population of Simunjan primarily consists of Malay and Iban communities, reflecting the district’s rich cultural heritage and traditional way of life.

There are several versions regarding the origin of the name “Simunjan.” One popular folklore recounts that a Chinese merchant once stopped in the area during a cloudy day while attempting to dry tobacco leaves. According to the story, the merchant arrived by a traditional trading vessel known as a Wangkang (Djong ship) and decided to rest there, eventually contributing to the naming of the district.
