Song (Malay: Pekan Song) is a riverside town and the administrative capital of the Song District, located within the Kapit Division of Sarawak. Covering an area of approximately 3,935.2 square kilometres, the district recorded a population of 20,046 in the 2010 census.

Strategically positioned along the banks of the Katibas River, a tributary of the Rajang River, Song serves as a vital stopover for river transportation travelling upstream along the Rajang River. Its riverine setting continues to shape the town’s economic activities and cultural identity, reflecting the longstanding importance of waterways in central Sarawak.
The earliest inhabitants of the Song District were the Kayan people, who were traditionally nomadic. Later, the Iban community migrated from present-day Kalimantan and settled along the fertile banks of the Katibas River in search of agricultural land.

Tensions between the Kayan and Iban communities eventually escalated into conflict, culminating in victory for the Iban. Following their defeat, the Kayan migrated northwards to the Belaga District, where they established new settlements.
Today, Song stands as a culturally rich district shaped by its indigenous heritage, river-based trade routes, and historical migration patterns, offering visitors insight into the traditional heartland of central Sarawak.
