The Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, Mount Matang is a Hindu temple located in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. Originally established in 1897 during the era of the White Rajahs of Sarawak, the temple was built near a plantation area that was once used by the local Indian community. However, the temple later fell into disuse and remained abandoned for more than half a century before being revived.
Situated on the slopes of Mount Matang, the temple stands at an altitude of approximately 800 metres above sea level, making it the highest Hindu temple in Sarawak. Surrounded by lush greenery, the temple offers a peaceful and tranquil environment for both devotees and visitors.
The temple’s architecture follows the traditional South Indian Dravidian style, featuring intricate carvings, vibrant wall paintings, and decorative ceiling designs that reflect classical Hindu artistic heritage.
